Our new Enamel Haze collection is a modern take on our best selling Aegis chain — also inspired by our iconic Ovate Hoops and Axiom links — with hand-painted enamel. The softness of the haze contrasts with sculptural and geometrical enamel, while simple shapes meet bold tones for the ultimate summer layers.
We first began experimenting with enamel jewelry last year with our summer Squiggle styles, putting our twist on tonal jewelry. Then in AW’22, we launched Enamel & Stone: the Color Collection, featuring hand-painted enamel and hand-cut cubic zirconia stones in everyday pendant necklaces, chunky chains and teardrop charm earrings. What do we love about this unique material? Wait, can we say everything? Let’s dig into it.
What is Enamel Jewelry?
Enamel is a type of decorative coating made from powdered glass or minerals. We apply enamel to our metals, heating at high temperatures to fuse it for a durable and colorful coating.
Our high-quality metals are micron (or electro) plated with 2.5 microns of 18ct gold on sterling silver for gold vermeil pieces, and 2 microns of 18ct gold on brass metal for larger gold plated pieces. None of our gold plated pieces are 'flash plated,' 'dipped' or 'gold-tone' – they have a thicker 18ct gold layer to ensure these larger styles will stand the test of time. We’re all about the longevity of our jewelry and we’re experts at micron plating, with over 15 years experience.
The technique of applying enamel to jewelry dates back centuries and has been used in different cultures around the world. Enamel jewelry is known for its durability and longevity, as the enamel coating protects the metal underneath from scratches and tarnishing.
Choosing the Colors
Our enamel jewelry comes in a color palette of hot pink, neon aqua, lemon yellow, and even more. The Enamel Haze collection features a brand-new enamel for us with fresh new shades: shimmering turquoise and teal green, limited-edition lilac, luminescent white, and an oceanic glitter ombré hand-painted enamel.
Handcrafting Enamel
These pieces are handmade using 100% recycled 18ct gold vermeil and recycled sterling silver. Everything is designed in-house at our London studio, and handcrafted by highly skilled artisans.
Our new Enamel Haze collection is the first time we’ve experimented with this type of enamel with a pearlescent shimmer. Everything is hand-painted (the same as all our enamel) which means the color can change due to its luminescent finish.
If our collections have enamel pieces in them, our factories will match our specifically selected pantone colors and hand-paint them in-house. Our pieces are then rigorously tested in our quality control process – from pre-production samples to wear tests – to ensure they're up to our high standards. We also have a dedicated QC team in every factory to check each and every piece throughout the making process. If it gets the green light, it’s given its final sign-off.
How to Care for Enamel Jewelry
If the color is starting to look a little dull, keep your enamel jewelry pieces shining with warm water, a mild liquid soap and a soft cloth. As with other jewelry, make sure to store in a cool, dry and dark place to prevent damage and keep enamel away from harsh chemicals, perfumes, detergents and chlorine. Always avoid abrasive materials or harsh chemicals that can damage the enamel's delicate surface.
Store your pieces in a dry, cool place away from direct sunlight. Excessive heat or sunlight exposure may cause the enamel to fade or become discolored. We recommend our jewelry boxes for home storage and travel jewelry cases for when you’re on the go — you know you’re going to be wanting to take these everyday staples with you everywhere.
